Chicago Teachers: Evaluate us on what we do, not on results. I wonder how that would work in the private sector?

  • Highest average salary of any city in the US
  • Average salary before benefits $76,000
  • Average family income in Chicago $47,000
  • Rejected a 16% raise over 4 years
  • Pay only 3% of health care costs
  • 71% of each new education dollar for the last five years has gone to retirement costs
Chicago students
  • Only 15% of fourth grader are proficient in reading
  • Only 56% of freshman end up graduating
  • Only 21% of 8th graders tested at grade-level proficiency
Chicago taxpayers
  • $3 billion deficit over next three years
